The body of this stein has been designed with man's best friend in mind. Raised-relief dog tags, leashes, bones, bowls and doghouses appear around the main subject panels. Incised dog paw prints help to frame these two main areas. The handle is in the shape of a raw hide chewbone. The pewter lid says "Faithful Friend"  with a dog paw print and a features a variety of embossed dogs as the border decorations. The pewter thumblift is in the shape of a chew bone. Brown glaze accents the cream body. One of Linda Picken's all time favorite images entitled "The Rookies" appears on the left side in which we see an adult sitting while one of the puppies chews on a police hat. The right image on this stein is entitled "The Guardian" and shows a beautiful study of an adult shepherd in an outdoor setting with his human charge playing with puppies in the background. A great tribute to a wonderful breed that has the unique ability to be both gentle and strong and a sense to know when each characteristic is most appropriately utilized.
