The two main subject panels shown are 1897 and 1899 calendar artwork and both depict majestic elk in natural settings. Raised relief borders are hand painted in the classic John Deere green and yellow. John Deere 1912 trademark appears opposite the handle. On the embossed pewter lid is the John Deere 1912 trademark with the famous statement, "THE TRADEMARK OF QUALITY MADE FAMOUS BY GOOD PEOPLE," surrounded by a tractor tire border.
